Regatta attracts top international competition |
||||
Thousands of rowing fans are due to attend the last day of this year's Henley Royal Regatta.
The rowing action takes place over a stretch of the River Thames on Berkshire's border with Oxfordshire. The international event has been held annually ever since 1839, except during the world wars. A total of 432 crews representing 15 nations have been on the water in the five-day regatta, which began on June 28th. Mike Sweeney, the chairman of the committee of management, said: "I am delighted that we have been able to attract such a high quality entry for this year's Regatta. "There will be strong overseas opposition for our British national crews in the run up to the World Championships which are being held at Dorney Lake, Eton at the end of August this year." Dornley Lake, near Windsor, has already been chosen to host both this year's World Rowing Championships and selected as the venue for rowing and sprint canoeing during the 2012 London Olympics.
