Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing
The Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, whose President is Lord Heseltine, is conferred upon those members who have a proven record of expertise, experience and success in marketing; have held a high degree of responsibility in successful marketing operations, and have risen to and held roles such as Chief Executive or Professor of Marketing.

Brian Smith, a member of the Bracknell Chamber of Commerce has had this honour conveyed upon him following the Institute’s detailed assessment and consideration for election and is a reflection of his expertise and experience in marketing and proven business integrity, for which he received the CIM’s warmest congratulations on his achievement.

Brian was co-inventor of Air Miles with Sir Keith Mills and both founded and ran his own London marketing and advertising agency, Mills Smith & Partners. He also founded the History of Advertising Trust, to conserve the UK’s advertising, marketing and media heritage and make it available for study worldwide. Today it houses one of the largest paper, film and tape archives of advertising, marketing, media and public relations in the world and also holds original material. It contains print (press media and posters), television, cinema, and radio ads, advertising proofs and artwork, story boards, artefacts, campaign memoranda and research material, from 1800 to the present day. Brian sat as its first Chairman and sits on the board Governors.

Brian is a marketing enthusiast, which apart from running his own company Escalator Marketing, is reflected in his involvement with Berkshire schools where he gives inspirational talks on marketing through the auspices of the Education Business Partnership. His latest enterprise, in association with two fellow directors, has been the formation of The Umbrella Partnership.

The Umbrella Partnership is an association of 9 Berkshire based companies, brought together under one Umbrella, for the purpose of providing a highly cost effective alternative to using expensive London marketing and advertising companies.

Each member of the Partnership runs their own company and are, therefore, experts in their own right. The value to their clients is that they can pick and mix (be it advertising, marketing planning, exhibition design, creative development etc.,) or use every one of the Partnership’s offerings under one Umbrella.

Escalator Marketing can be contacted on 01344 621825 and the Umbrella Partnership on 01256 382927.
