Business Leads UK – Is it just another social network?
Social networks are popping up all over the place! The beautiful thing about software is that once it is written it can be duplicated for a minimal cost and left on websites for people with a need to find. Once found, depending on the skill level required to manage the software (which is getting less techy all the time), they can be turned into amazing social networking community websites that others will be attracted to participate in. Much of the current social networking community measurements are based on volume. The more people in group the better it is... But that is so not true... I totally get it in relation to having “enough” members so that others are attracted to join in. Rather like having a queue outside a nightclub... others are inquisitive and so join the end of it!! (To that end we offered FREE membership up to and including today 19th October 2009 and over 100 have join us so far.) I believe quality of engagement is key to the long term success of a social networking community... We need a new name... social networking tends to imply it is on the web, not necessarily just a social experience, which in turn suggests NO business conversations... me, I’d rather socially connect in real time, over a cup of tea... online networking is a great way to bump in to new people and then real time conversations can be had... it is so easy to get caught up in the euphoria of social networking that you bump into someone online, type a few words and then they become “your best friend!” Many of the current social networks use the number of friends as a measure... but this becomes a deterrent for those who are shy and prefer just a few connections, they feel like they shouldn’t be there, so leave... and they could have so much more to offer than the hot air of those collecting friends! What is different about Business Leads UK? Business Leads UK has the facility to do Video Chat. This means as well as checking out the blog posts and comments people have made you can actually talk to them in real time without having to jump in your car and drive 50 miles! So it also becomes a very environmentally friendly community! “I already use Skype and MSN for video chat so what else is different about Business Leads UK?” The video chat is within the community website... so you don't have to go onto another platform to connect... which is jolly handy!! Business Leads UK is very much about helping others by posting business leads that you hear about on your travels. If you add opportunities that you can’t make the most of into a community for others to pitch up then they will respond by thinking how they can help you... and so will naturally be keeping an ear open for opportunities that relate to your world... and will pass them on. In Business Leads UK you are not measured by the number of friends you have but by the contribution you make. Those that offer sound advice will be recognised by others who engage in the community and so their opinions will be sought ... which if they are a business advisor could well lead to financial gain ... marvellous! Last but not least, Business Leads UK is run by Jon Davey who has been involved with online communities since 2002 and so has a wealth of experience, gained through trial and error, which he will happily share with those who ask. He will also ensure the community is policed and any annoying people chopped out rapidly to ensure the smooth running of Business Leads UK. Business in tough out there and we need to help each other find opportunities ... this is about keeping trade local ... about the Regional economic multiplier ... about ensuring we survive the recession and come out the other side stronger and better connected.
