Excellent, On This Day in History now has a full year of content! 366 days of the year represented by single pages of content showing Birthdays, deaths, music, sport, people & showbiz, general events.
These fun facts have always proved very popular with the general public. The most popular search term this month is currently “Famous people born in June”. For many of us when it comes round to our own birthday or that of a close relative, we are always interested to see which famous people share our special days. On This Day in History began as an email newsletter around Christmas 2002. Emails were despatched regularly from Jan 2003 – Dec 2005. During the summer of 2005 LiaiseOnline launched a brand new website for businesses in Berkshire under the domain name BusinessinBerkshire.co.uk and it was logical to include the “On this day” content on the BinB site. Christmas 2005 it was decided to stop despatching the regular emails as we had no commercial angle and it made sense to focus the use of the fun facts on the BinB site to encourage visitors. In the spring of 2006 it became very apparent that BinB was proving popular with the search engines and from a starting point of 179 visitors in January 2006 by December over 3500 people visited the site, giving us a grand total for the year of 18,121 visitors. We were SO pleased! In 2007 this lead to over 100,000 people visited the BinB/Onthisday website and found fun facts relating to their world. Excellent! In the summer of 2007 we found that we could FTP the websites from binb/subdirectory to their own domain names. This meant we could push the content out under www.onthisdayinhistory.co.uk . This gave the website increased strength as the domain title is directly related to the topic. Add to this the fact that we had owned the domain for a number of years and always had at least one web page up, this would give us a stronger foundation moving forward. In January 2008 we pushed out under the main domain name and used the content in our weekly BinB email newsletters, creating awareness and links. This gave us active content on two website and since the search engines had already indexed the binb/Onthisday then visitors began finding us under both domains. In 2009 we have seen the main website take dominance as the search engines defer to the newest content and re-index old links appropriately. We have restructured the content so that visitors can easily access the day they are looking for and over the next year we aim to build on the content that relates to the UK, so that onthisdayinhistory.co.uk has a USP! We’re currently averaging around 10,000 visitors to 20,000 pages each month, all looking for fun facts for one reason or another... so they are probably most likely to be in a good mood!! The financial model is very simple. We charge £1000 + VAT per month and we brand up the website down the right hand side to reflect your products and services, leading visitors off to your main site, blog or micro sites you may have commissioned us or others to create for you.
