Word of Mouth Marketing

Most people agree that ‘word-of-mouth’ recommendation is one of the best ways to spread the word about your business. But how do you go about building a strong ‘word of mouth’ network in the first place? Let’s take a closer look....

It would be a fantastic world if we could just sit back and wait for word-of-mouth recommendations to roll in instead of having to spend seemingly endless time, effort, and money on advertising, marketing, and networking. Many long-standing businesses have achieved this utopia – it can certainly be done – but of course it takes a serious degree of commitment and perseverance to reach that stage in the first place.

There are however, a few basic steps you can follow to help you on the way. For a start, there is a simple Golden Rule which you start applying today: tell as many people as possible about your business and what you do – and keep on telling them. There’s a thin line to consider here – you don’t turn want to turn into a complete bore about this so tread carefully - but aim to keep on hammering your message home until it gets across. Remember family and friends all have their own networks so make sure everyone in your circle is absolutely crystal-clear about what you do.

So that’s Step One – tell loads of people what you do. Now for Step Two: make sure you always do an excellent job and strive to go beyond what’s expected of you and offer something extra that your competitors can’t match. This will naturally vary depending on your field of business but it’s usually not difficult to find a way of setting yourself apart from your immediate competition.

Step Three – ask for testimonials or recommendations. When a customer tells you how happy they are with your work, ask them politely if they’d mind if you use their testimonial on your website.

Step Four – wait for the referred business to roll in. This will take time, but it WILL come eventually...

The question is : HOW CAN I SPEED UP THIS PROCESS?
