Happy Birthday to Business in Berkshire

On the 20th February local community website BusinessinBerkshire.co.uk (BinB) celebrates its 4th birthday…

Their first BinB email newsletter was despatched to 300 businesses… today circa 3000 business people receive the BinB newsletter twice a week. Monday has an event focus while Wednesday concentrates on PR.

In January 2006 the website had over 28,000 visitors to 124,000 pages and clocked up nearly 500,000 hits! Over 800 different search strings were used by surfers who were presented with a page on BinB… a search string being something line… Brand new customers only.

According to Nielsen/NetRatings…
Searches Up 55 Percent, Google Accounts for Half
The total number of U.S.-based searches conducted across approximately 60 search engines in December reached nearly 5.1 billion - or an increase of 55 percent from the 3.3 billion searches conducted in Dec. 2004, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. Google accounted for nearly half - 48.9 percent - of the searches, increasing its share by 5.7 percentage points from Dec. 04's 43.1 percent. Yahoo Search and MSN Search shares fell 0.3 and 3.1 percentage points, respectively.

The UK tends to follow the USA in user trends and the Internet is fast becoming the first point of call for many users looking for answers…

Jon Davey commented, “We started the BinB email newsletter as a means providing information on local networking events. Being a new business we needed to get connected and since our core business was, and is, email marketing, it made sense to use the tools at our disposal to help our business and others move forward.

Over the last 4 years we have gone from strength to strength. In 2004 we launched our CMS website (Content Management System) to make my life easier. Allowing our members to add content through simple web based forms. We can extract the appropriate news easily and add to the relevant newsletter.

The results have been astonishing. Under many different searches we can now be found on page 1 of Google. We first noticed this back in March 2005, just before the Royal wedding. We’d put some pages up about our own wedding at the Guildhall and started getting calls from the press around the world. This resulted in us being invited inside the castle grounds on the day of the wedding!
