Xmas Comes Early to Stoke Park Club
|

Is it just me, or does Christmas seem to start earlier each year? This weekend I noticed my local supermarket shelves were already groaning under the weight of xmas puddings, mince pies, selection boxes, crackers, and silly hats in the ‘seasonal’ aisle. I’m not complaining though – because last week I was lucky enough to receive an invitation to historic Stoke Park in Stoke Poges for a pre-season sampling of their forthcoming Christmas menu. And excellent fare it was too.
Executive Head Chef Chris Wheeler has created a truly spectacular menu for the season, blending classically British ingredients with a contemporary twist and some exciting new textures and flavours. The Christmas Lunch Menu features 4 choices of starter, entrée, and dessert with many dishes having an appropriately seasonal theme. For example, the Confit Chicken & Pistaschio Nut Terrine is accompanied by a drizzle of Cumberland Sauce which can best be described as ‘the taste of Christmas’ with its layers of warm spice flavours. Main course options include Rump of Lamb, Pan-Fried Lemon Sole, a fabulous vegetarian choice, and of course the more traditional Roast Turkey with all its accompaniments. Desserts lovers are in for a real treat too. Chris’ new ‘Christmas Trio Dessert’ is an absolute delight: Chocolate Orange Layered Terrine with Bailey’s Anglaise, Date Sticky Toffee Pudding, and Apple, Raspberry, and Calvados Creme Brulee. Presentation is stunning and the food delicious. And here’s the best news: this special menu is priced at £19.50 for 2 courses or £25.00 for 3 – amazingly good value for award-winning cuisine of this calibre. The dining room itself is an intrinsic part of the experience with its 1920s Art Deco furnishings and original paintings and prints, many of which evoke the golden age of travel. Stoke Park was the first country club to open in the UK (1908). It is set in 350 acres of landscaped parkland and the celebrated Stoke Poges 27-hole golf course. A state-of-the-art spa, health and racquet pavilion was added in 2002 - membership options can be tailor-made to your needs. A selection of luxury rooms and suites are available, all magnificently furnished and decorated. Olde Worlde charm combines with modern but subtle conveniences (such as heated marble floors in the bathrooms.) Stoke Park has been used as a film location for various movies including the smash ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’. So if you feel you deserve a fine-dining experience in magnificent surroundings I would certainly recommend a visit to Stoke Park. The Park Restaurant is open for dinner seven days a week and for Christmas lunch on weekdays from 28th Nov through to 23rd Dec, from 1200-1430. For bookings, call the reception desk on 01753 717171 or email info@stokeparkclub.com. Notes from the Editor: Excellently reviewed by Hugh McClelland and enjoyed by the two of us... If you manage a restaurant or help them with their PR... then give me a call and we'll pop round for a bite and provide you with a byte in return!! 01753 852904. Thank you Susan Flynn PR...
