Slough gets tough on business waste
Slough is getting tough on any business that doesn’t dispose of their waste correctly.
In a bid to create a cleaner, safer, greener Slough, the Borough Council and its neighbourhood enforcement team are carrying out spot inspections on commercial premises across slough.
It is hoped that this will encourage all businesses to clean up their act when clearing up their waste by using a licensed waste carrier.
By law, every business is required to have a ‘trade waste agreement’ for the correct disposal of waste, by an approved disposal company.
Records detailing the when and where of waste disposal are required to be retained for a minimum of two years. Companies who handle hazardous waste must adhere to strict legal requirements, including registration with the environment agency.
The initiative’s goal is to reduce fly tipping at the back of shops and eateries, and hopes to prevent rat infestations.
A naming and shaming of scheme will be put into place for any business that does not comply with the law, and a fixed penalty notice will be issued with prosecution also being taken as a last resort.
For further information contact public protection services on 01753 875255 or email publichealth@slough.gov.uk.
