Small Firms to Enter National Recycling Awards
Small businesses keen to demonstrate their commitment to going green are encouraged to enter the National Recycling Awards. Indeed there is a special category specifically for smaller companies employing 250 staff or less. If you run a small business that is making a strong contribution to the environment then why not enter the National Recycling Awards? Entrants are being asked to show off their green credentials by demonstrating how they are minimizing waste and encouraging the recycling of materials. They will need to set specific targets and satisfy the judges that they’ve been achieved. The SME sector in the UK has the power to exert a strong influence when it comes to green and environmental issues. SMEs account for more than 50% of the UK private sector workforce, so by following a policy of recycling and waste prevention, these 4 million UK small businesses can really make a difference. Going green can often save businesses money as well as help raise awareness of green issues within the local community. Judges of the National Recycling Awards will be looking for evidence of recycling and waste reduction initiatives. This includes how these policies have been communicated to employees, customers, and suppliers. They will also want to know what targets have been set and the results of the initiatives. Firms interested in entering will need to supply the following: • Company information • Details of specific recycling and waste reduction initiatives undertaken • Description of recycling initiatives • Types of materials and tonnages collected • Percentage of materials recycled • How the initiative communicated to staff, customers and suppliers • How the results were measured • Why your firm should win the award For more information about the awards, visit: www.nationalrecyclingawards.com/smallbusiness.asp www.businessinberkshire.co.uk
