Pride of Reading Awards
Amazing achievements lead to tear jerking moments at this year’s Pride of Reading Awards hosted by TV Celebrity Chris Tarrant, who expressed his pride in his hometown as he came back once again to host the fourth Evening Post Pride of Reading Awards. He said: “When I look at what they have done, I’m not sure I could be that brave. I’m not sure I could be that selfless.”
The Reading-born star provided his services free and received a donation for his favourite charity for Children with Leukaemia.
The annual awards cater for the unsung heroes of Reading, from the bravest of children to those who have fought bitter odds to achieve their success. This year there were 11 categories – including Child of Courage and Local Hero. Winners were cheered when awarded their glittering prizes at the Renaissance Hotel.
Messages were received from Royals’ manager Steve Coppell who congratulated the winners “for their brilliant and great achievements” and also by magician Paul Daniels who said the winners had “done wondrous things”.
Reading FC players’ WAGs – and babies – were there to support the winners. Karen Murty, Amanda Hahnemann and Olga Gunnarsson jumped enthusiastically into the fun-packed show.
The finale (now a tradition) was Elvis tribute act Paul Rouse – who was an award winner himself in the first year of the campaign. He led the way in a few choruses of “The Wonder of You” with the winners jumping on board and taking to the stage for an epic climax.
Pride of Reading recognises the inhabitants and businesses who have made Reading such a great town to be apart of.
