Website 'lets fans get slice of action'

A new website is aiming to promote the causes of a local rock band and help them raise money to record an album.

The slicethepie.com site aims to allow bands to generate cash from their fans, thus allowing them more leeway to get into the studio, reports Get Reading.

Now Reading band The Skies have made enough money from the venture to enable them to put their creative talents to tape.

The project has been developed by David Courtier-Dutton, who is operating the business out of Brimpton.

He says that the site is allowing music fans, in essence, to become the record label themselves by logging on, cutting out the need for industry suits.

"This website splinters the industry by allowing all bands to self-launch themselves and gives fans the chance to listen to the music they want to," Mr Courtier-Dutton told the paper.

Fans can invest in the band by trading shares on the website, Get Reading also commented.

The Skies have already been performing for a number of years.

Other sharing sites such as MySpace exist and can be used to promote recording artists.
