Queen Gives French President a Lift
Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of Windsor on Wednesday 26th March to see the Queen and French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
The French President and his new wife, Carla Bruni, will accompany the Queen as they travel in the Royal Carriage followed by the Household Cavalry. The Sarkozy’s wedding, was held in secret in February and was a mere two months after the couple met, but some feel that the marriage might spare the couple the embarrassment of being offered separate bedrooms during the UK visit. In a celebration of friendship between the British and the French more than 90 flagpoles will be set up along the route. This will be President Nicolas Sarkozy’s first State visit (starting on the 26th March at Windsor Castle and will continue until 28th of March), and he and his wife can expect all the trimmings including the official State welcoming ceremony with the exchange of gifts and State Banquet. The last State visit held at Windsor Castle was for the King and Queen of Jordan in November 2001. While in Britain the president will visit the Prime Minister and other government officials, as well as leaders of commerce and industry. Full details of their arrangements of the State visit are yet to be finalized. www.businessinberkshire.co.uk
