Duke of York Visits Research in Motion |
|||
Research in Motion is set for a royal visit when The Duke of York visits its premises in Slough, Bath Road on the 26th of February.
Working closely with the Government, in particular UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), the Duke's duties involve the promotion of the UK as a destination for foreign investors and to create positive conditions for businesses looking to investing abroad. Assisting UK businesses to export their products to ever growing markets of both established and emerging, the duke has built up quite a portfolio of achievements. These include his participation in the successful negotiation of contracts for British companies operating overseas, including Rolls Royce (China), BLP (China), Westland Aircraft (USA), British Pig Executive (China) and HSBC (Korea). The duties of the Duke’s role vary depending on the location and the state of the market, but his main objectives include: 1. Maintaining strong government and commercial contacts and relationships in the UK and abroad in order to maximize opportunities for UK companies. 2. Delivering high-level access to British companies. Supporting UK projects and bids directly with Government lobbying overseas. 3. Marketing the UK, particularly in emerging markets such as India, China and ASEAN countries. This includes representing the UK at major trade fairs and conferences and delivering key note speeches on trade issues. 4. Hosting high-level trade conferences in the UK to showcase business opportunities in particular regions e.g. Abu Dhabi, Jordan and Vietnam. 5. Providing regular, direct feedback to business and government through UKTI and the CBI on business issues both in the UK and overseas. There is no financial benefit for the Duke’s role as Special Representative, however, all travel expenses are paid for by UK Trade and Investment and the Department of Transport.
