Your Christmas Wish?
Hi, quick question before I rabbit on…
• What would you like from Business in Berkshire for the New Year?
• What’s on your wish list that we could do for you?
• Your Christmas Wish!
I’ve been meaning to write my daily Jon’s Journal but the world seems to take over and before I know it, it’s the next week.
I’m going to diarise it moving forward in the New Year, 12 – 1pm is reflecting on the last 24 hours, I can write it all down and make it even more real! Let’s try it:
The morning kicked off with a call to British Airways Regional Cargo to make sure we were on track for the next newsletter. We’re off… quick emails out to a few other clients to keep them in the frame with their projects.
A call from Thames Hospicecare to see if I would be the smiley face of their lose a stone campaign in the New Year. That’s given me an idea based on the Teletubbies!
Checked the email system and it had updated for the end of the month so we could start raising invoices. Noticed one of our accounts had used his 1,000,000 units, we like it when that happens! Shall we raise a new invoice? Dollar rate is great for UK, nearly $2 but that means the yanks go inward and get their external divisions to buy at home. Sensible approach but could impact on the order… will just have to wait.
It’s such a shame we don’t think like that here in the UK. We put ourselves on top of the heap and say look how great we are at looking after this 3rd world project or how we support the under dog and give them grants and resources to set up home in good old Blighty.
We’ll look for the cheapest solution, forgetting that the economy requires us to spend money locally rather than with a cheapest supplier overseas. The Regional Economic Multiplier says that in a healthy economy, a pound spent locally will go to 5 or 6 other business people and therefore help us all pay our mortgages and buy presents for the kids at Christmas. Please try and think of that when you buy stuff.
In my head, as long as the largest portion of the cost of any product is spent with a local registered business, then this will mean the highest proportion of tax will go to the UK coffers and help pay for all the infrastructure we take for granted.
Personally I don’t mind paying tax… it means we are doing alright! I prefer paying it to other local businesses but then I need it to spend… so buy an account today!!
Sorry, did I just go off on one? Anyway, where was I?
Call in from Bobbi, am I still OK for the gig on Thursday night. 90 minutes to 25 creatives looking to see how technology can work for them. In a previous conversation I’d asked her to survey the attendees and find out what they want to know about the internet. It was a timely call, it got me in presentation mode and I called up a few people in my research, one of which we will be tendering for in the future!! Funny how these things pan out. It also lead me to do something radical at the presentation… you’ll have to be there!!
Spoke to a Charity we are going to be managing from an Internet platform and PR point of view. Full service agency utilising our partner base… will be interesting. Need to sort out the proposal and get it to my man… admin!
Then a call from a blast from the past! Chap I did some work for looking to gain exposure for his new site… that’s easy, £540 gets you in the game my boy… will run it past his partners.
Another deal comes in. I had made him an offer he couldn’t refuse and added some favourable credit terms… and he wanted more… NO, that’s the best it gets, do I look like a charity! OK, deal done.
It’s amazing how you do one favour for someone and they want more, more, more… this lad will be getting tougher next year. You pay to play or show us how you will get others to play and we work as partners.
It’s getting later, promised myself I wouldn’t work past 6pm, one last email to a chap I met Monday and will be working with during 2007. They are the largest manufacturer in their space with a turnover of £15,000,000. He sent me an email Monday evening saying thank you for the inspirational meeting… now that’s rock ‘n’ roll to me!!
Bring on Wednesday 6th, meeting with Quinney, that’ll be fun…
