Lunch with Sir Bob Geldof
Yesterday, Tuesday 26th September 2006, I was lucky enough to be invited to lunch with Sir Bob Geldof. Myself and 500 business people at B2B Thames Valley, Windsor Racecourse.
Scott Hider, the Group Event Manager, had kindly invited me and a few friends to join him for the main event. The lunch started well with a few bottles of water and wine being delivered to the table. Not sure if Scott turned the water into wine but he worked his usual magic and ensured there was plenty for one and all. With the expo closing at 7pm, the wine was tempting but the water won through!
A Greek Salad for starters, followed by chicken and potatoes and on to the main event of the afternoon, Bob giving us a run down of his life to date… what a great bloke.
And what was reassuring is that what he said made sense. He painted a picture of a life full of decisions that didn’t always map out… but he made them and moved on. If they didn’t pan out, he didn’t look for blame but for a solution, keeping the momentum up and finding a way forward.
The key word that he used to describe his success was COMMITMENT. He puts his heart and soul into the things he’s involved with and this energy encourages others to join in. This was true when he was 15 and is still true today, at 55 (on 5th October).
Rock on Bob, thanks for being the highlight of a great day, it’s now 10:30pm and I need my pit so I can fuel my batteries for another great day tomorrow.
If you’re looking for something to do to help grow your business, you’d do well to pop along to B2B Thames Valley today, Wednesday 27th, as it is the last day.
