Tony Adams signed my balls!
Last night, June 20th, Jon Davey, publisher of Business in Berkshire, Paul Allen, Station Manager of Time 106.6, Brett Tonkyn of Wembley Stadium and two lucky winners of our football competition, Dave Everett from Omni Consulting and Andrew Sansom of Andrew Sansom Photography, were lucky enough to have dinner with Tony Adams at Bisham Abbey followed by the England V Sweden game on a big screen.
The evening commenced with champagne on the lawn and a spot of networking with other guests. Dinner was a juicy rack of lamb with some healthy looking vegetables and a nice pudding… but we weren’t there for the food… Ali’s the food critic!
We were there to enjoy the football and hear what Tony had to say about the match and what it’s like to be involved in such a prestigious occasion.
First thing I’ve got to say is what a nice bloke Tony Adams is. I got my balls out on the table and he was only too happy to sign them… and do it with a smile! So many “stars” are so full of themselves that they forget who put them there. Tony put himself there by being a talented footballer… and he put his skills to good use, moving between the tables, ensuring everyone had a few special moments with him… good on ya Tony Adams.
Before kick off, Tony explained how we had one of the best defence records in the World and felt confident that our boys would bring home the bacon. He wasn’t so sure about Owen Hargreaves… felt that Lampard and Gerrard could benefit from having someone else in midfield to protect and give them more movement… he also felt that Crouch wasn’t the man for the job and perhaps they had left a few of our best at home… that Owen just needed to get a goal to boost his confidence and that Lennon should get a run out.
Tony was only too happy to answer any questions that anyone had openly and honestly. He just kept forgetting the questions in all the excitement! He was happy to back in Whickam!
Half time and ouch, Owen was out of the tournament which put the big man back on the pitch… why didn’t he give Walcott a run out? Tony felt that Walcott was probably there just to taste the atmosphere and see how the other team members handle the tournament so he’s ready for 2010… the other Owen has worked hard but Tony’s still not sure… Joe Cole’s goal, what a goal! A text book looping volley from 25m out…

Half time and we’re all feeling confident for the second half… but what went on? Thank goodness Gerrard came on when he did to sort thing out. 2-2.
Excellent night out…thank you Sinead, thank you Tony, thank you England!
You too can enjoy this years World Cup with an England legend…
