Preparing for an Event
I must have been involved with some 50 events since I put my faith in myself and started my own business.
And you think it’s going to get easier… and I’m not talking about the practical realities of coffee being late or the projector thinking your laptop is a Mac! (pc joke or not!) … I’m referring to the left brain stuff.
Today (Tuesday 2nd May 2006) we ran an event for our Berkshire Knights and it went down a treat. Everyone seemed to enjoy the experience, something completely different, provided by Kangaroo Court… some of the knights will give their feedback for next weeks newsletter and they’ll explain more about the event itself…
When preparing for an event my recommendation is to get different people involved. This can be a struggle if there is only you in the business and you’ve just got started… but ask a few friends, they’re sure to help you if only you ask.
Once you have your team give them defined tasks, one logical role is to have someone liaising directly with the venue so that the little things are sorted in a logical, timely fashion.
This also prevents those whose glasses are always half empty from finding something to moan about… but then again, for some this is part of their existence, so providing a few holes to see if the b’tards spot them can always make for a good chuckle!
How am I feeling? It’s that post gig sensation. Even though I have run a number of events I obviously still feel anxious, wanting things to go well and the storage of this energy then needs releasing… I guess I used to get drunk when I didn’t have others to think about and now, since I have a family and run a website that rocks, scribbling a few words after a nice long bath is the logical release for the ramblings of a mad man… it’s also productive… marvellous!
I feel better now… thanks for listening… a problem shared and all that!
The picture is of my gang on board Victory, Nelson’s ship. We had a day out yesterday… headed for the sea. Did you know the youngest person on the ship at the Battle of Trafalgar was just 12, the youngest in the fleet was only 8! Can you imagine a 12 year old today working to earn their keep… I guess they do in foreign lands where the High Street buys its products and we condone by being attracted in by the low price tickets… but that’s another story and something we can all make small steps towards rectifying by doing business in Berkshire!
