41 Today… a quick look back…
I was reflecting this morning on how great my life is today…
Many people spend their lives rushing from pillar to post, bemoaning their lot and have no time, no time, NO TIME!
Well the clock is ticking and you only get one go at this life, so make the most of it and enjoy those special moments… like Newcastle beating Chelsea this week in the FA Cup… or was that a dream?
At 11 I was at middle school in Leeds and probably had a normal party with cheesey whatsits and sausage rolls (obviously organic). At 21 I started my birthday with drinks in the poly bar (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) and ended up in some club completely wasted. At 31 I was preparing to leave Edinburgh for my world tour… I’d left my corporate job as I could see the pension crisis looming and knew that unless I did something about it, the country would probably end up down the toilet. As ritual would have it I had the day off and went drinking with friends. It was hard to find a pub that wasn’t open all day and as luck would have it, the bloke next door kindly provided a few herbs to help with proceedings!
32 was nearly missed! The hedonistic lifestyle I had evolved nearly turned into a short lived experience as a business trip to the USA resulted in a pulmonary embolism… blood clot in the lung. This, for more self assured individuals, would have been a minor blip in proceedings. For me it had a huge impact on my whole existence. It took me 3 years to get to a point where I could move forward. A salesman, which I was, needs to be confident for people to believe in them. Going to bed each night scared that you might not wake up in the morning tends to trash any self belief you may have had. Add lack of day to day family / community support… being the brand new kid on the Windsor block. The knock on effect meant I was pretty useless as a sales person! So I bounced around for a few years and then things got Soooo much better…
I met my wife Ali in the local hostelry and from that point on we’ve been moving forward as a team. I take care of business and she manages me and the home. Kicking my arse when my attention drifts from our agreed current main focus for the business, it makes for the perfect balance of adventure and stability.
41 is my favourite birthday yet. Walking the dog at 6:41, at 7:41 we had breakfast, opened my prezzies! Journey South CD from Ali, Toon Army top from Charlie, a war mask made by Chloe and beer tokens from my mum! A card from my sister and auntie Connie who never forgets!
Who knows what the day will bring… thank you Lord.
Anyone thinking of what they can get the man who has everything… a nice bottle of organic red is just the job… try Vintage Roots…
P.S. And if you know someone whose getting on a bit or is disabled and could do with a comfy chair, check out what Mr Tim Parker has to offer... (he's moving soon and would like to raise some funds)
P.P.S. Thank you to the 20 people who have provided us with testimonials over the last couple of days...
