Party, Party! by Alison Davey
Normally happy to be a ‘backroom boy’ for BinB, this week I’ve felt compelled to step forward with a few words of my own…

The reason? Well, Jon & I have been in the party mood having both just turned 40! We decided to celebrate in style with a ‘sparkly’ birthday party last weekend at the Harte & Garter in Windsor- joined by family & friends to welcome in our next decade, we had a fantastic evening. Thanks to all those who were involved in making it such a special occasion- but there are those whose professional contributions are worthy of an extra special mention…

Firstly the spectacular reception provided by Aliyah’s Chocolate Fountains- we hired a champagne fountain, orange juice fountain & an unforgettable chocolate fountain. A family business based in Swansea, Howel Evans and his assistants ensured the evening started to flow beautifully… Anyone looking for a truly delicious feature at any event must give them a call!

For the evening’s entertainment we were also lucky enough to book Flashback the Band- who were quite simply brilliant. We loved their play list, range & energy & most importantly they kept everyone on the dance floor all night. We’d heard them a couple of years ago at an FSB Event, but they were even better than I’d remembered- so thanks again to Alan, Scratch & the other guys.

As you can imagine with a sparkle theme it was important that we looked the part & Jon received great service from Windsor Formal Hire. They sourced the jacket we’d picked to hire in his ‘larger than average’ size at quite short notice- I was particularly grateful for this as Jon was threatening to come dressed in an Elvis costume! I also decided to hire something special & found a lovely shop called Sera in Chalfont St. Peter with a great selection of amazing dresses. To be honest I was spoilt for choice and kept changing my mind about which sparkly outfit to pick. They were really helpful & patient, although I think they may have been a little exasperated when I even changed my mind on the day of the party. They didn’t show it – in fact I ended up buying the dress I finally chose. Check out dresshiretogo.com for some really fancy frocks…

All, in all a great time was had by all- so, how does it feel to be 40? Pretty good actually
(No mid-life crises looming yet, although Jon did recently get an old sports convertible??)
It has however been a good time for reflection…

With the General Election just around the corner, this is the first time I have really thought about my vote. It occurred to me to me how little I really know about Party Politics and how much I have been influenced by preconceptions, parental views and peer group opinions over the years. Perhaps I’m in the minority in this- either way-its better late than never to finally make an informed choice! This time I’ve promised myself that I won’t simply vote out of habit- I’ll try to look objectively at the party’s manifestos and think about the implications both on a personal and national level. That’s not to say we can always rely that what’s promised will actually be delivered, but then that’s another story!
So as you can see, my mind is still very much on the party scene… LibDem, Labour, Conservative or Green? Vote wisely!
