Berkshire Villages Compete for Recognition
Berkshire villagers who are particularly fond of the place they live can now share their pride by entering their village into the 2007 Calor Berkshire Village of the Year competition.
The contest, which is organised by the Community Council for Berkshire (CCB), gives villages the chance to win a £2,000 prize and the opportunity to go forward into the nationwide Village of the Year competition for 2007/2008.
Entrants must have a population of 5,000 or less and will be judged on their community life, local business, young people, older people and the environment.
"Berkshire villages have always responded positively to the competition, but we hope that entry levels will be up in 2007," competition coordinator Tim Parry told Newbury Today.
"Entering the competition is easy and provides an opportunity to audit services and activities, to bring people together in a celebration of all that's happening, as well as offering a chance to raise the profile of the community."
Entries must be received by May 7th and last year's victor, Aldermaston, will host the announcement of the winning village in September.
