Latest Mobile Phone Scam |
|||||||
There seems to have been a spate of mobile phone scams recently. The latest involves a hoax call from a telephone company engineer.
If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person claiming to be an engineer from your telephone company, be cautious. Scammers are calling unsuspecting mobile users, saying that they need to check their line. You may then be asked to press #90 or #09 (or any other combination of numbers). If this happens to you, END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY and do not press any of the numbers. Apparently the fraudsters that operate this scam are using a device which can access your “SIM” card when you pres either #90 or #09. Once they have access, they can use it to make calls at your expense. In an effort to minimise the damage caused by this scam, it makes sense to spread the word to as many mobile users as possible.
