Feng Shui Your Website for Better Sales? |
Website designers are turning to feng shui and other ways of balancing their creations to attract users. Dr Smita Narang has authored of a book on how to introduce the principles of vaastu shastra to the web. The Indian art aims to create harmony between the elements of fire, earth, water, man, space and objects. "Earth is the layout, fire is the colour, air is the HTML, space is name of the site, and water is the font and graphic," she said, adding that each element should be chosen carefully and in balance with the rest of the objects on the page. Others have sought to imbue the ancient art of feng shui into web design, arguing that improve the "flow" of energy through the site would help boost hits. Feng shui expert Vikram Narayan said: "A website where the colours hurt your eyes, the music offends your ears or has too much information is probably too cluttered and does not give a positive flow of ch'i [life energy]" However, one web designer speaking to the Metro newspaper said that the changes recommended by such experts do not always result in rising hits. Rupert Goodwin of ZDnet, a highly popular tech site, said: "I've heard of businesses using this and I think it's complete nonsense." |
