Olympian comes to inspire success
Brilliant young Berkshire athletes are to be treated to a consultation with an Olympic athlete in order to gain some hot tips on how to go about attaining Olympic glory.
Shelley Rudman, who won international plaudits for her silver medal during the Turin winter Olympics earlier this year, will be giving directions for success to 160 young sporting hopefuls during a meeting in Reading. Ms Rudman, who won her silver medal in the skeleton bobsleigh event, meets the young people this week at the Blessed Hugh Faringdon School in Southcote. During the session, she will try to inspire a new generation of sporting success from the county's brightest sports enthusiasts. It is not the only event that should inspire determination and belief in sporting hopefuls. Berkshire's status as the UK's rowing capital was recently assured with the opening of a world-class training facility. The £13 million Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake and Sheriff Boathouse at Caversham was officially opened by Olympians Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent. It is hoped that it will be used to train Olympic champions of the future.
