Windsor eyes up London attraction
Windsor has taken a leaf out of London's book by giving the go-ahead to plans to install its very own version of the London Eye in the town this summer.
The installation of the big wheel is subject to a number of conditions, but residents should be able to look forward to towering 180ft above the town's centre. Known as the Royal Windsor Wheel, it will be situated at Alexander Gardens and will be open from July 8th. Forty observation carriages will be available on the attraction, each carrying a group of up to six people on the 20-minute ride, during which observers should be treated to a special view of Windsor Castle, the River Thames and the Thames Valley. David Eglise, chairman of Windsor and Eton Town Partnership Board, said the wheel could be important for the town's businesses. "The attraction of our very own Royal Wheel will undoubtedly bring more visitors into the town during the coming months which will, in turn, boost trade among local shopkeepers and businesses," he said. "Just as importantly it will undoubtedly provide a great deal of enjoyment for many people as families enjoy their leisure time together and experience an altogether different view of Windsor with spectacular views of the castle and the river from above."
