Another historic Berkshire spot receives makeover |
||||||
Significant funding has been made available to Reading Borough Council in order to help it restore some historic gardens in the town.
Funding was handed out by the Heritage Lottery Fund to support restoration work being carried out on Caversham Court. The whole project to restore the riverside spot is said to cost £1.6 million, with grant support amounting to £1.2 million. Caversham Court is listed in the English Heritage Gardens Register of Parks and Gardens of Historic Interest and soon local residents will be able to enjoy it in all its former glory. Grade II listed buildings are also found in its conservatory area. The council said that a lot of the money would be spent on restoring the 17th and 19th century features of the garden, such as its gazebo and causeway. Historic features have been removed from the spot in the past but will be replaced, adding yet another beauty spot to Berkshire.
