Microsoft acts to increase email trust
|

The degree to which people trust incoming emails could be taking a leap forward, as Microsoft has announced measures to aid the issue.
It is to encourage the adoption of the sender identification system for email authentication, allowing recipients to see who the email is from. This should mean that far more targeted emails will be properly received and opened, rather than incorrectly deleted or filtered out by anti-spam software. In addition to this, it has launched an improved MSN Postmaster Services program that helps email senders and internet service providers better manage their outbound e-mail infrastructure. "Companies of all sizes are realizing the significant business value of email authentication and reputation services to improve email deliverability and help protect their brand identities," said Craig Spiezle, director of the technology care and safety group at Microsoft. "In particular, businesses are adopting Sender ID because it requires few if any changes to most email systems, and typically there are no hard costs or additional software required to implement it, making it simple and cost-effective." It is also to join up with more than 36 other companies and industry organisations during a summit this week in order to develop email trust and confidence through effective technologies and guidance.
