Berkshire kids taught the secret of happiness |
||||||
Children in Berkshire look set to become the most content in the country as they are to be given lessons in happiness.
One of the county's leading independent schools has opted to give its teachers positive psychology coaching in order to advise the young people on how to be happy. Wellington College, in Crowthorne, will give pupils aged between 14 and 16 one lesson a week in the art of well-being. "To me, the most important job of any school is to turn out young men and women who are happy and secure - more important than the latest bulletin from the Department for Education about whatever," said head Anthony Seldon. "Celebrity, money and possessions are too often the touchstones for teenagers and yet these are not where happiness lies. "Our children need to know that as societies become richer, they don't become happier." Religious education staff will take the lessons, instructing pupils on managing relationships, physical and mental health and how to achieve ambitions.
