Council gets top marks for community improvement plans
|
A Berkshire council has been awarded top marks by the government for its work to improve local communities.
West Berkshire Council chalked up the top marks from the government's Beacon award scheme after it presented its plans for improving rural services in a report entitled Empowering Communities. It received a maximum six points in each of the assessment sections, earning it a classification of 'outstanding'. "This was very much a team effort," said the council's partnerships manager Paul James, according to the Slough Express. "This is the first Beacon award won in west Berkshire and we are very proud. "The overall philosophy of the work was to encourage the parishes to join in after consulting their residents to work out their priorities for the future and prepare an action plan to achieve them." Road safety and traffic calming, future housing plans and young people were the main topics discussed in the plans. West Berkshire Council chief executive Nick Carter said: "This latest accolade follows the three-star award for social services, a quality award for our planning service and a top award for mental health care. "It shows that all the hard work over the past months has paid off. Congratulations to all staff involved," he added. |
