Local businesses invited to make Olympic bid of their own
|
Berkshire businesses are being invited to share in a £6 million fund aimed at preparing businesses in the South East to help the country put on a successful Olympics in 2012.
Businesses from the construction and leisure industries are eligible for an award from the initiative, known as the On Your Marks project. The money can be used for providing training and qualifications to its workforce. It is hoped that these improved skills will help the nation to deliver a great games with a sound infrastructure in place. David Steed, head of the South East European Social Fund at the government office for the South East said: "To meet the challenge of hosting the Olympics, there needs to be a wide and flexible pool of skilled labour. "Not only will European Social Fund money help increase the pool of available labour, it will also help people access jobs created as a result of the Olympic Games and help small businesses to upgrade the skills of their employees. "Help through the On Your Marks initiative will provide new opportunities for people in some of our most deprived communities, by developing a skilled and inclusive workforce, and ensuring that as many people as possible share in the economic benefits that will flow from the Games in 2012." Berkshire will be an Olympic venue for the 2012 games, hosting events such as mountain biking. |
