Berkshire business is one of the UK's best, say employees
An engineering company in Reading has been named as one of the top twenty businesses in the country to work for.

Peter Brett Associates, an engineering company with offices near Caversham Bridge, came 17th in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For list, which was published at the weekend.

It is the second year running that the company has made the list, but its 2006 result was a significant improvement on the 27th place it secured on last year's chart.

The firm's commitment to protecting the environment and its fundraising efforts in support of the Asian Tsunami fund helped it clinch a top twenty spot.

It was also the attention to detail in its dealings with staff that made it an appealing business to work for. Members of its team are offered discounted rail travel and interest-free loans to buy bikes.

"This is the second year running that we have entered this coveted award which represents the 'gold standard' benchmark for research into employee satisfaction in the UK," said Brian Allen, human resources director at PBA.

"Our commitment to a better work-life balance and excellent training opportunities for our employees helps us to recruit, retain and motivate our staff making a great place to work."

The vast majority of the marks awarded to the companies through the survey come from employees themselves, so Berkshire really can be proud to be the home to such a brilliant business.
