Queen sees cutting edge technology at Royal Berkshire Hospital
Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh visited Royal Berkshire Hospital on Tuesday to help in its relaunch.

The monarch was given a tour of the new technology used to treat patients, including a robotic arm used with stroke victims to help them regain their movements.

"The Queen loved it, but she didn't have a go to practise the Royal handshake," Dr Ralph Gregory, division director of medicine and consultant cardiologist at the hospital, told icBerkshire.

Greeting the crowds in her trademark green coat and hat, the Queen spokes to those who had gathered at the hospital and stopped to wave and receive bouquets brought by visitors.

Inside both staff and patients were keen to meet the two. Two-year old Gynnis Mashiri, being treated for hypoelastic lungs on the Dolphin ward, took two weeks to practise greeting the Queen.

Professor Ann Sheen, the hospital's chief executive, said the Duke "doesn't tolerate not knowing and is very demanding because he's interested".

"He wanted to know all about how the hospital is broken up into its Victorian parts and the new parts, changes over the years and how technology has affected us."
