Reading students win international trading competition
|
Students from the University of Reading have bagged an international trading competition prize in North America's third largest financial centre.
The British finance students won the Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC), beating fellow competitors from MIT and Quebec's Universite de Sherbrooke into second and third place respectively.
The teams, competing in the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management Financial Research and Training Lab, were given trading cases similar to modern market conditions.
Kevin Mak, lab manager, said: "This year's event received rave reviews from the competitors. The trading at times was quite intense as the number of participating teams continues to grow from year to year.
"Our team is pleased with how the cases and software performed, and look forward to developing new cases for next year's event."
In total, 37 teams took part, with four students in each. Cases included the "open outcry", where students were given the chance to test out the frantic trading environment of an outcry pit, and an analyst trader case, in which student analyst forecasts for earnings per share were used to help team members trade in fictitious companies.
