Berkshire boosts its culinary skills
|
Parents are being invited to hone their culinary skills at a new scheme started by a Berkshire council.
The course has been designed for parents with young children and aims to teach parents how to prepare healthy food on a tight budget.
West Berkshire Council is behind the new scheme in partnership with Newbury Community hospital.
West Berkshire council leader, Graham Jones, said: "This is an excellent idea. The course covers topics such as how to identify cheap and healthy food to buy; recommended levels of sugar and salt; whether ready meals are a godsend or sin; and a lot more.
"We're all subject to relentless advertising that can persuade us to eat too much of the wrong thing and it's our health as well as our pocket that can suffer. These courses offer a quick, easy and cost-effective way to a better lifestyle."
The courses will be taking place in Thatcham Memorial Hall, between 10:00 and 12:00 and begin on February 23rd.
A course will also be running at the Lambourn Centre between 11:00 and 13:00 and will begin on the first Wednesday of March.
