Royal Berkshire gets royal visitors
The Royal Berkshire Hospital has announced that it is to have some very special guests for the grand finale of a mammoth building project eight years in the making.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will open new buildings at the county's hospital on Friday, February 24th.

From that date, all services will have been moved from Battle Hospital to the Royal Berkshire Hospital site.

The royal visitors will be shown the coronary care unit and the stroke unit. Her Majesty will also be meeting staff and patients on the children's wards.

The £132 million Treasury-backed project was the biggest in the country and took eight years to complete.

Trust chairman Colin Maclean said: "It is a great honour that the Queen will perform the opening ceremony and that Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh will meet staff and patients and hear about life at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

"We are delighted that all the hard work of so many should conclude with a Royal event that we will remember for a long time to come."

A plaque will also be unveiled by the queen to mark the occasion.
