Berkshire residents invited to find out who they are
Berkshire people are being given the opportunity to discover something about their family's past this coming weekend.

The Berkshire Record Office, Reading, is having a Family History Day this Saturday, during which budding Berkshire historians will be given the opportunity to speak to experts about how to go about digging up the secrets of their ancestors.

The event has been timed tocoincide with the BBC's television programme Who Do You Think You Are?, in which six celebrities including Jeremy Paxman and Stephen Fry delve into their family trees.

Mark Stevens, record office senior archivist, said: "We want to show as many people as possible just how fascinating their family history can prove to be."

Councillor Richard Fagence, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead's lead member for leisure and cultural services, said: "The record office is a wonderful place for people to research their family history and this open day will give people the chance to start their exploration and provide them with the tools and advice to help them launch their new hobby as easily as possible.

"I hope Royal Borough residents will take advantage of this excellent opportunity."

The office will be open between 10:00 and 15:00 for general genealogical inquiries.
