Reading gets £100,000 riverside renewal
|
Reading has become the latest Berkshire location to receive significant investment aimed at improving the city for its residents.
Reading's Thames-side area may now receive a £100,000 cash injection to add new paths, seating and lighting to the area, in order to make it an even better location for the local community.
Hills Meadow, View Island, Kings Meadow, Christchurch Meadow and the Thames Promenade all look set to benefit from the investment, which is part of a project to rejuvinate Thames-side green spaces.
The money was secured by Reading Borough Council from a development programme being carried out on Napier Road.
Catherine Wilton, lead councillor for culture and sport, said: "The aim is to encourage residents and visitors alike to make better use of the valuable parks and green spaces which line one of Reading's most valuable resources.
"We hope the improvements will not only encourage greater use, but provide a safer environment as well better facilities for our disabled residents."
The pavilion at Christchurch Meadows will be re-roofed as part of the project.
Some of the work could begin as early as the middle of next month, providing even more picturesque locations for Berkshire residents to enjoy.
