Berkshire town to get extra £17.5 million for face lift
Business should be booming in a Berkshire town after a funding package was agreed that will see £17.5 million invested in Slough's town centre, the BBC has reported.

The investment gives the green light to Slough borough council's Heart of Slough initiative - a project that aimed to improve the town's Brunel bus station, road layout, housing, office space and community facilities.

Funding was secured from English Partnerships, a national regeneration agency, and should see Slough's centre transformed in to something suitable for the 21xt century.

The funding reportedly takes the total amount to be ploughed into Slough to £200 million.

According to the BBC, councillor Dexter Smith, the commissioner for planning and transportation, said: "This is a great milestone in the Heart of Slough regeneration project.

"I am proud of the focus achieved on the project over the past two years. We have cut down the high-rise element and dramatically reduced the amount of office space, increasing the number of homes.

He added: "We have listened to residents' views and will be including a brand new state-of-the-art library in the plans."

A public consultation carried out between February and March of last year found that 18 per cent of respondents wanted a new library.
