Berkshire town gains business safety award
|
A Berkshire town's anti-crime scheme has been recognised as helping it become a safer place for businesses and consumers.
The Slough Town Against Crime (Stac) partnership will be given a prestigious award by the British Retail Consortium's Action Against Business Crime programme.
Stac is to be awarded the Safer Business Award after the consortium found that it had improved business conditions in the town.
The project was launched in 2002 and involves over 50 members of the local business community as well as the police and council officials. Those involved in the project share information about safety issues.
A special radio service also gives members swift information from CCTV footage and police patrols.
Councillor Sean Wright, the commissioner for community safety, said: "Receiving this award is great news for the shops and businesses in our town centre. This recognition puts Slough on a list of places around the UK where the highest standards of concern for people who use the town, and close working relationships with other agencies towards a common goal are commended.
He added: "Well done to all involved in making Slough a safer place for our businesses."
