Popular Christmas lights require police patrol
Police are having to guard a huge Christmas light display set up by a Berkshire businessman.

The display outside the Berkshire home of business development manager Vic Moszczynski has become something of a Christmas time must-see.

The popularity of the display at the businessman's West Drive mansion in Sonning has continued unabated. Last year his lights pulled in £5,000 for charities.

Unfortunately, the influx of onlookers into West Drive led to a crime problem in the area, according to the Reading Chronicle. This has prompted the county's police to start stationing officers outside the property throughout the evening until the Christmas lights are turned off at 22:00 GMT.

According to the paper, 47 crimes were reported in the neighbourhood, which is usually regarded as extremely law abiding.

Most of the crimes apparently came about as thieves broke in to cars that were left unattended while their owners were drawn to the popular festive lights display.

Despite pleas from local residents, police and a Maidenhead MP, Mr Moszczynski remains defiant. He says that he will continue to keep the Christmas lights and encourage local people to view them.

He said: "I love them, my wife hates them, but I think they are great.

"The plan is still to get as many people in to see the lights and have a walk round."
