Windsor welcomes Sir Elton's wedding
Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish will today celebrate their civil partnership in a ceremony at Windsor's Guildhall.

The registrar performing the ceremony, Clair Williams, visited Sir Elton and Mr Furnish earlier in the month at their mansion in Old Windsor, to go through the workings of the ceremony with them.

Although Windsor has filled with the country's press and hundreds of well-wishers, the ceremony itself is said to be a low-key one.

It is then thought that Sir Elton will hold a party at his mansion.

According to the BBC, Sir Elton and his partner are one of 700 gay couples due to join in a civil partnership today. The two met 12 years ago.

The so-called partnerships are not officially recognised as marriages in the eyes of the law, but do give gay couples equal rights under employment, pension and inheritance laws.

Windsor Guildhall was also the chosen venue for the Prince of Wales when he married Camilla Parker Bowles on April 9th of this year. The two also held a service of prayer at Windsor castle.
