West Berkshire Council "improving well"
|
West Berkshire Council has been told that it is "improving well" after the latest official assessment of its services.
The evaluation, known as the Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA), was carried out by the Audit Commission.
The system is a new one, with all councils given a rating out of four stars. West Berkshire Council obtained an average two stars, but was also told that its performance was on the way up.
The assessment noted that standards of education were above the national average and its social care for children was said to be "achieving good progress".
It was also noted that the council displayed "good community leadership" in its dealings with businesses, the voluntary sector and other public sector bodies.
Graham Jones, the council leader, said that the council's customers would notice improved services: "With new measures in place to ensure value for money, I'm confident local residents can look forward to a further increase in the quality of front line services."
The positive news comes soon after a government announcement last month that put West Berkshire's planning service in the top 25 per cent of the country.
With Slough Borough Council obtaining a glowing report in its CPA assessment, Berkshire can be proud of the public services provided in the county.
