Slough Council performs well in 'hardest test'
|
Slough Borough Council has obtained three stars in a new, rigorous evaluation of the services that it provides its customers.
In its Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA), which is a test carried out by the Audit Commission to assess the work of councils in the UK, the council was shown to be improving its services in several areas.
The council was said to have improved in the areas of education, social care and customer services. Its improved school results were also picked out for praise.
The report puts the improvement down to the local council's willingness to engage with local residents. The appraisal stated that: "The council engages well with residents to take account of different ethnic, faith and age needs."
The achievement is made more impressive as the Audit Commission admits that the latest round of assessments have been more difficult. Councils now have to keep improving in order to keep their current position in the ratings.
Councils are marked out of four stars and Slough Borough Council obtained three. Cheryl Coppell, the chief executive of Slough Borough Council, was delighted with the outcome of the evaluation. She said: "We have a great team of dedicated staff who do a fantastic job delivering essential services to some of Slough's most vulnerable people and I am proud of the work they do."
