Wokingham Primary schools among best in country
|
Wokingham is one of the top four performing education authorities in the country, thanks to the results of tests taken at the end of key stage two at its primary schools.
The tests, which are taken when a child is 11, showed that 85 per cent of pupils achieved the expected level or above in English and 82 per cent did so in maths, compared to national averages of 79 per cent and 75 per cent respectively.
This put the district joint fourth nationally in both of these categories, while in science it was joint fifth, with 90 per cent of its pupils attaining the expected level.
Councillor Frank Browne, executive member for children's services, said: "The results announced today continue to put the district in the top four local education authorities in the country.
"I am very pleased that our pupils continue to make good progress and achieve outstanding results. I would like to extend my congratulations to all pupils and their teachers for their hard work and dedication in achieving these results."
Meanwhile, the percentage of its pupils actually exceeding the expected level was 41 per cent in maths and 39 per cent did in English, compared with national averages of 30 per cent and 26 per cent respectively.
Wokingham was therefore joint second nationally in both of these categories, while in science it came joint third with 57 per cent.
