Microsoft invites Berks kids to surf safe
|
Hundreds of children were invited to Microsoft's UK headquarters in Reading last week to learn about how to use the net safely.
The day out was part of a government campaign run with the computer giant that is attempting to let children know about the risks of the internet and how to use it safely, reports the Reading Evening Post.
Alistair Baker, managing director of Microsoft UK told the newspaper: "Every year we have a number of children coming in to see what it's like to work at Microsoft HQ.
"[This year] they had that as well as learning more about safety on the internet.
"An increasing number of young people are recognising the vast benefits the internet can bring, and it is crucial we educate them on how to protect themselves while online."
He added: "The feedback we've had from schools is that children have been very attentive and these tips are reinforced."
The Getting To Know IT All campaign was established to make the internet a safer place and let children know about the dangers that exist, such as from giving personal information.
