Berks schools win TV lottery cash
|
Schools in the Reading have won lottery funding for a garden project after a TV phone vote determined where the cash should go.
The schools have won £50,000 to establish a series of ten sensory gardens in the Whitely area of Reading.
Meridian presenter Sangeeta Bhabra, who backed the project with a special report, said: "I'm delighted. It's fully deserved and I look forward to seeing how they spend the money."
The project, Aspire2 Green and Beautiful, will establish the gardens in the grounds of ten schools for the use of the pupils and the community.
Across the country 50 awards of £50,000 were given through regional ITV programmes with all projects aiming to improve the local environment.
Sir Clive Booth, chair of the Big Lottery Fund said: "I would like to offer my congratulations.
"The work that these projects will be able to do thanks to lottery funding has ultimately been made possible by the public engaging in the process of choosing how funds are allocated."
