Racing for charity cash
|
Newbury racecourse has helped the community by raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity over the year.
The course has announced that in 2005 through its many activities £380,000 has been raised, reports the Newbury and Thatcham Chronicle.
The Berkshire racecourse has several methods for raising cash for charities, from simple collections with people rattling buckets as race goers leave the course to whole race days organised for good causes.
Lisa Ward, marketing manager, told Newbury and Thatcham Chronicle: "Charitable organisations are always looking for good locations to raise awareness of their cause and generate funds, and we have been able to give them the platform we need."
Charities that have raised funds at the racecourse include West Berkshire Mencap, Wessex Heartbeat and the Starlight Children's Foundation.
Coming up at the course from November 25th to 27th is the Winter Festival featuring the 49th Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, a three mile race for five year olds.
Over Christmas there will also be meetings on December 14th, 28th and 29th.
