Ladies Day at Royal Ascot requires the top Royal Ascot Tipster to step forward. And with 5 wins to his name in the first 2 days then Brian Smith is just the man for the job.

Brian Smith

His regal presence (check out the beard ladies) and wisdom of the turf makes all the ladies swoon. Add a top hat full of winning slips, a few bottles of Veuve Clicquot and a dash of sunshine and you're in for the perfect day.

Enjoy Ladies Day and be sure to look out for our man of the turf Mr Brian Smith and if spotted, give him an nudge and ask him, "Where did you get that hat?" and you'll both burst into song and be forced to down another bottle of Veuve.

ROYAL ASCOT FORECASTED WINNERS FOR THURSDAY JUNE 16th

2.30 Norfolk Stakes (Class 1) (Group 2). 2 year olds. 5f

21 runners thunder to the post in this opener. The Kevin Ryan trained Bapak Chinta 7/2 whose impressive victory at Hamilton is very highly regarded. The horse beat Frederick Engels, winner of the first day’s Windsor Castle Stakes so should put in a sound performance here today. I also like the look of Pyman’s Theory 15/2 whose creditable display in Listed National Stakes could place this horse there or thereabouts. Then there’s Ed Dunlop who runs Burwaaz 14/1 who has scored with 3 of his 10 runners in 2 year old non-handicaps at this course. However, most of today’s bets (759) to date are on Silverheels 7/1 who “looked a bit special” in a Windsor maiden in April.

Main bet: Bapak Chinta 7/2 to win (provided rain doesn’t alter the going too much) No: 3 on the racecard. Side bet Pyman’s Theory 15/2 each way No: 21 on the racecard.

3.05 Ribblesdale Stakes (Class 1) (Group 2) (Fillies) 3 year olds. 1m 4f

Banimpire 5/2 has only just run at Cork (last Sunday) but is still considered fresh enough by his trainer Jim Bolger to run today. Pundits think this 12 fl heat has lost its gloss in recent years and that today’s race isn’t the best field ever assembled. Therefore, the trainer thinks that as Banimpire is in sparkling form with 4 wins under the belt, the step up to a mile and a half should prove no problem. The lightly raced and progressive Rumph 7/2 will certainly provide a challenge following a recent Newbury performance.

Main bet: Banimpire 5/2 to win No: 2 on the racecard.

3.50 Gold Cup (Class 1) (Group 1). 2m 4f

Despite winning at Leopardstown, the 5 yr old Fame And Glory’s 15/8 half length victory was workmanlike rather than exceptional. Connections are confident he will stay the 2 mile 4 furlong trip, which is one of the most testing in flat racing, as he steps up to that distance for the first time - but the way he struggled over 1 mile 6 furlongs at Leopardstown will be a concern. Despite that, Fame And Glory is a former Irish Derby winner and will be the one to beat and Aidan O'Brien is a four time winner of the Gold Cup (2006-2009) and that is a record that demands respect. Duncan 11/2 is class at his best which he showed to good effect by winning the Yorkshire Cup and has shown ability to find reserves when needed. Holberg 9/1 should be considered as he is a reliable stayer. I saw him run very well indeed in the Melbourne Cup but too much rain will be a problem for him. A tempting each-way bet could come in the form of 20/1 punt Askar Tau, who despite finishing sixth in the Yorkshire Cup is a proven stayer having won the Group 2 Lonsdale and Doncaster Cups, as well as the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes over 2 miles at Ascot in April. Again in the Gold Cup line up is Kasbah Bliss 14/1, having finished a distant 6th behind Rite of Passage last year. Nick Smith, Royal Ascot’s Head of International Racing tipped last year’s Cesarewitch winner Aaim to Prosper @ 66/1 this morning.

Main bet: Duncan 11/2 each way No: 4 on the racecard. Side bet: Aaim to Prosper 66/1 No: 1 on the racecard.

4.25 Britannia Stakes (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) 3 year olds. 1m 4f

30 are set to go to post which makes this race a total pinpicker and one to be avoided from the betting front, so choosing something I’d go for Chain Lightning 14/1 which likes soft going as witnessed recently at Salisbury and good show at Sandown. Chain Lightning loves rain.

Main bet Chain Lightning 14/1 each way No: 14 on the racecard.

5.00 Tercentenary (formerly Hampton Court) Stakes (Class 1) Gp 3, 3 year olds. 1m 2f

Another ‘trappy’ race where Laajooj 8/1 could prove a good pick having a 2 length Newbury win under the belt despite the rider dropping his whip early on!

Main bet: Laajooj 8/1each way No: 6 on the racecard.

5.35 King George V Stakes (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) 1mile 4f

966 bets have been laid on rear runner Brown Panther 7/1 for this race so go with the market which thinks he’s on for a hat-trick.

Main bet: Brown Panther 7/1 each way No: 8 on the racecard.
