Royal Ascot 2009 Tips for Saturday

ROYAL ASCOT FORECASTED WINNERS FOR SATURDAY JUNE 20th

2.30 Chesham Stakes (Class 1) (Listed Race) (2 yr olds only) 7f

Mark Johnston has won this three times in the last ten years and today is represented by potential high flyer SHAKESPEARE who is out for improvement on previous run at Haydock. Up against him will be BEETHOVEN the Yourk beaten favourite. Although this will prove the siffer experience my money’s on BEETHOVEN to improve enough to win this.

Main bet: BEETHOVEN (No 3) 3/1
Next best SHAKESPEARE 10/1 (No 14) each way

3.05 Hardwicke Stakes (Class 1) (Group 2) (4 yr olds plus)1m 4f

No trainer other than Sir Michael Stoute possesses a greater strength in depth amony older middle-distance horses than him. Toda he enters DOCTOR FREMANTLE FROM HIS 4TH PLACE Derby trip and win at Chester following. The same can be said for CAMPANOLOGIST who is now a high star performer over quick groupd and following Jokey Club win at Newmarket last month. I prefer the latter.

Main bet: CAMPANOLOGIST (No 24) 3/1

3.45 Golden Jubilee Stakes (Class 1) (Group 1) (3 yr olds plus) 6f

Elevated to Gp 1 status in 2002 this race now caries the joint-biggest purse of the week. Consequently it has attracted stars from the USA, South Africa, Hong Kong, Greece, Australia and Ireland too. Dual South African Grade 1 winner JJ THE JET PLANE winner in Dubai, Windsor and unbeaten Greek entry IALYSOS that all this puts last years winner KINGSGATE NATIVE in the shade for the consideration stakes! Also to be considered is SACRED KINGDOM for Hong Kong.

Main bet: JJ THE JET PLANE (no 6) 11/4
Next best: SACRED KINGDOM (No 10) 3/1

4.25 Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3 yr olds plus) 6f

The average price of the Wokingham Stakes winner over the last 20 years has been 17/1 with last years BIG TIMER coming in at 20/1. With a field of 28 to post this is not an easy race from which to pick winners. On the 20/1 side is TAMAGIN who came 5th here last year and does not carry a penalising weight today. On the should win side are JIMMY STYLES and HIGH STANDING from the viewpoint of form.

Main bet: HIGH STANDING (No 22) 9/1 each way
Next best: TAMAGIN (No 8) 20/1 each way

5.00 Duke of Edinburgh Stakes (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3 yr olds plus) 1m 4f

This is one of the toughest races of all to sort out. Sir Michael Stoute has the greater strike rate here but enters none this year. I would go for YOUNG MICK and CRACKENTHORP for consideration. YOUNG MICK is very well handicapped for this race and has been active over the winter period in Dubai and loves this course. CHACKENTHORP quickens midfield but has the tendency to slow down towards the end but showed he could nearly win last time out.

Main bet: YOUNG MICK (No 12) 20/1 each way
Next best: CRACKENTHORP (No 17) 11/2 each way

5.35 Queen Alexandra Stakes (Class 2) (4 yr olds plus) 2m 5f

the form horse of the race is veteran CARACCIOLA who’s stamina can not be questioned. The next I’d look at is AMERIGO runner-up in 2m Queen’s Vase last year and will relish this extreme stamina test. In my book it’s between the two – you choose!

Main bet: AMERIGO (No 8) 11/4 or joint choice: CARACCIOLA (No 1) 3/1 each way

GOOD LUCK!
