Tuesday 2:30 Queen Anne Stakes (Class 1) (Group 1) 1 Mile Straight.

Founded in 1840, the Queen Anne Stakes commemorates the monarch who established racing at Ascot in 1711. Awarded Group 3 status in 1971, it became Group 2 in 1984. Elevated to Group 1 in 2002 the race now attracts the season’s leading older milers from across Europe.

Godolphin horses have won 5 of the last 10 renewals of this race which could have been a good pointer to Chreachadoir which had to be withdrawn last week due to injury. We now need to look to HARADASUN to reverse last month’s 6th place in the Lockinge and CESARE, who is set to bid for his 5th victory. CESARE who loves Ascot and can handle most conditions will be best served if there’s a good pace. In addition SAGEBURG, lightly raced, put in a career-best effort at Longchamp and could be a star miler in the making. TARIQ although showing a good turn of foot at Goodwood may find the race this time more of a struggle.

Next best SAGEBURG 5/1 each way.

Tuesday 3.05 King's Stand Stakes [British Leg of The Global Sprint Challenge] (Class 1) (Group 2). 5f.

First run on the round course in 1837 but becoming the King’s Stand Plate in 1901 for 2 year olds. Today the race remains a sprint, although now run over the minimum trip of 5 furlongs for 3 year olds and upwards.

The consensus is to back the Aussies in this race as they’ve won 3 of the last 5 renewals. Nevertheless, it could be that we should look at Jeremy Noseda trained FLEETING SPIRIT this year. On Friday last week, the trainer felt her preparation was completed in exactly the manner he would have wished for on the Limekilns short gallop. TAKEOVER TARGET returns to Britain close to the peak of his powers after his major win in Singapore. TAKEOVER TARGET holds a big chance but this race is may prove a furlong too short for him. He may run again later in the meeting in the Golden Jubilee Stakes where the greater distance will be more to his liking. NATIONAL COLOUR, South African leading sprinter, also makes plenty of appeal here and at 20/1 may not be a forlorn e/w bet.

Tuesday 3.45 St James's Palace Stakes (Class 1) (Group 1) (Entire Colts) 1 Mile Round.

Named after the Tudor Royal residence, the inaugural running of the St James’s Palace Stakes in 1834 was a walkover for the Derby winner Plenipotentiary. The race features the best milers from the Classic generation, often attracting horses that have run in the English, French and Irish 2000 Guineas, with a succession of famous winners.

Since 1996, only one 2,000 gns hero has gone on to add the St James’s Palace Stakes to his roll of honour – Rock of Gibraltar in 2002. Since 1996, Saeed Bin Suroor (7 sins) and Sir Michael Stoute (3 wins) have dominated this race. Only Andre Fabre and Aiden O’Brien (1 win apiece) have disturbed their supremacy. HENRYTHENAVIGATOR (not worth backing; too odds on) is 4/7on to maintain his unbeaten 3 year old record but will have to be on top form to maintain his supremacy over FALCO and TWICE OVER. FALCO is second favourite after his impressive 3 length victory at Longchamp last month. RIO DE LA PLATA was 2nd behind FALCO at Longchamp (said to be one of the meeting’s e/w banker bets by some) tore a shoe off coming out of the stalls in the Derby and was footsore on the return home. RAVENS PASS, Irish 2000gns winner but blocked in at Newmarket when 4½L behind HENRYTHENAVIGATOR runs to redeem matters today.

Main bet HENTRTHENAVIGATOR 4/7on (don’t back) but will quite probably win. 2 e/w bets for a place: FALCO 11/2 each way or RIO DE LA PLATA 14/1 each way.

Tuesday 4:20 Coventry Stakes (Class 1) (Group 2). 6f.

First run in 1890 and named after the 9th Earl of Coventry, this is the first Group contest of the year for juveniles and provides an ideal opportunity to assess whether they will be able to perform at the highest level.

This race looks likely to be the most competitive 2yr old contest staged over the 5 days. According to Matt Williams of the Racing Post, ORIZABA is the banker of the meeting after producing a polished performance on his debut to win a competitive Newbury maiden by 9 lengths. The entry of ARTS CONNOISSEUR, who displayed an impressive turn of foot to win both starts over 5fl is a surprise decision for this 6fl race as was expected to be entered for the 5fl Norfolk Stakes so remains a puzzle. HIMALYA is well regarded but on wide draw.

Main bet: ORIZABA 100/30.

Tuesday 4.55 Ascot Stakes (Handicap) (Class 2) 2mls 4f. 4 year olds+.

First run in 1839, the Ascot Stakes is run over 2½ miles. Like the Gold Cup and Queen Alexandra Stakes, this race provides a thorough test of stamina. It is one of just three races at the Royal Ascot meeting in which the field passes the winning post twice and attracts horses that have run in the early season staying handicaps, most notable the Chester Cup.

4yr olds have won 7 of the last 10 runnings, while 10 of the last 12 have gone off at double-figure odds. This race is one of the longest handicaps anywhere. The progressive BUKIT TINGGI is expected to go well after winning 2 mile York handicap. LIBERATE could follow up (or the other way round!) so why not a reverse forecast?

Tuesday 5.30 Windsor Castle Stakes (Class 1) (Listed Race) 5f

First run in 1839 over the straight mile course, this race was originally designed to attract 3 year old colts and fillies that had competed in the early season Classics. Now run over the minimum distance of 5 furlongs and restricted to two year olds, the race was been promoted to Listed status for the first time in 2004.

The last 7 winners have been colts as since 2002 only 6 fillies have run in the race ASAINT NEEDS BRASS (track to suit) and trainer thinks the horse will be in the shake-up, and MISSILE DODGER after recent Oaks win.

No Main bets: Two CRAZY each ways: ASAINT NEEDS BRASS 25/1 and MISSILE DODGER 33/1.
