Royal Ascot Horse Racing Tips

Royal Ascot horse racing tipster Brian Smith is back with us for this year's race card. Tuesday 19th June 2007

ROYAL ASCOT FORECASTED WINNERS FOR TUESDAY

2.30 Coventry Stakes (Class 1) (Group 2). 6f. For 2 year olds

20 go to post. DECLARATION OF WAR is 11/2 2 yr old Chapple-Hyam trained bay colt which notched up 2 wins in 2 runs and put £22,216 into his early bank account. Think of him as the Lewis Hamilton of the 4 legged equine variety rather than 4 wheel kind. If he holds his price at 11/2 this horse offers a good each way chance.

Main bet: DECLARATION OF WAR e/w 11/2.

3.05 King's Stand Stakes [British Leg of The Global Sprint Challenge] (Class 1) (Group 2). 5f. For 3 + year olds.

20 runners go to post at a furious pace over just 5 furlongs. One horse, MISS ANDRETTI is the Australian Raider to watch which at 10/3 early morning may harden in the market. Has always returned money in 16 wins from 24 runs. Hoard on his heels will be the other Australian star TAKEOVER TARGET at present 11/2 which has also only been out of the frame 3 times in 25 starts and may offer good each way value.

Main bet: MISS ANDRETTI 10/3. Next best Takeover Target e/w 11/2.

3.45 St James's Palace Stakes (Class 1) (Group 1) (Entire Colts) 1 Mile Round. 3 year olds.

This is an 8 runner race which is likely to be battled out by COCKNEY REBEL and CREACHODOIR. COCKNEY REBEL 11/8 completed the 2000 Guineas double by landing the spoils in both the UK and Ireland and offers a massive challenge. CHEACHADOIR 11/1 was runner up in both the French and Irish 2000 Guineas and could be there or there abouts thus offering a nice each way alternative.

Main bet COCKNEY REBEL 11/8. Next best CHEACHADOIR 11/1 each way.

4.20 Queen Anne Stakes (Class 1) (Group 1) 1 Mile Straight. 4+ year olds.

RAMONTI 5/1 has won 3 group contests in Itals and ended the year with a fine 3rd in the Hong Kong Mile. At present odds of 5/1 represent an each way bet. All the rage and hard on his heels will be GEORGE WASHINGTON 5/4 a 4 time Group 1 winner having won the 2,000 guineas and QE II Stakes last season but tends to fade if not hungry for the chase.

Main bet RAMONTI 5/1 each way. Next best GEORGE WASHINGTON 5/4.

4.55 Ascot Stakes (Handicap) (Class 2) 2mls 4f. 4 year olds+.

This scheduled 20 runner race will be headed by LEG SPINNER 11/2 the son of Intikhab took the event by a head from Golden Quest when Royal Ascot was run at York two years ago but has not run on the Flat since then. JUNIPER GIRL 16/1 could offer better value as an each way bet as this horse will react favourably to rain.

Main bet JUNIPER GIRL 16/1 each way. Next best LEG SPINNER 11/2.

5.30 Windsor Castle Stakes (Class 1) (Listed Race) 5f. 2 year olds.

20 go to post in a field likely to be headed by Aiden O’Brien trained ACHILLES OF TROY 3/1 following his Newmarket maiden triumph although flopped at the Currrugh following that race. Will he bounce back? Channon trained HATTA FORT 4/1 may look more reliable with 2 wins and 2 seconds behind him.

Main bets: HATTA FORT 4/1 or ACHILLES OF TROY 3/1. (Pref HATTA FORT).

GOOD LUCK!

HISTORY AND EXPLANATION OF THE RACES

2.35 Coventry Stakes (Class 1) (Group 2). 6f

First run in 1890 and named after the 9th Earl of Coventry, this is the first Group contest of the year for juveniles and provides an ideal opportunity to assess whether they will be able to perform at the highest level.

3.10 King's Stand Stakes [British Leg of The Global Sprint Challenge] (Class 1) (Group 2). 5f

First run on the round course in 1837 but becoming the King’s Stand Plate in 1901 for 2 year olds. Today the race remains a sprint, although now run over the minimum trip of 5 furlongs for 3 year olds and upwards.

3.50 St James's Palace Stakes (Class 1) (Group 1) (Entire Colts) 1 Mile Round

Named after the Tudor Royal residence, the inaugural running of the St James’s Palace Stakes in 1834 was a walkover for the Derby winner Plenipotentiary. The race features the best milers from the Classic generation, often attracting horses that have run in the English, French and Irish 2000 Guineas, with a succession of famous winners.

4.25 Queen Anne Stakes (Class 1) (Group 1) 1 Mile Straight

Founded in 1840, the Queen Anne Stakes commemorates the monarch who established racing at Ascot in 1711. Awarded Group 3 status in 1971, it became Group 2 in 1984. Elevated to Group 1 in 2002 the race now attracts the season’s leading older milers from across Europe.

4.55 Ascot Stakes (Handicap) (Class 2) 2mls 4f

First run in 1839, the Ascot Stakes is run over 2½ miles. Like the Gold Cup and Queen Alexandra Stakes, this race provides a thorough test of stamina. It is one of just three races at the Royal Ascot meeting in which the field passes the winning post twice and attracts horses that have run in the early season staying handicaps, most notable the Chester Cup.

5.30 Windsor Castle Stakes (Class 1) (Listed Race) 5f

First run in 1839 over the straight mile course, this race was originally designed to attract 3 year old colts and fillies that had competed in the early season Classics. Now run over the minimum distance of 5 furlongs and restricted to two year olds, the race was been promoted to Listed status for the first time in 2004.
